Women who Inspire: Susan B. Anthony

One of the many women who have inspired me through my journey of opening a business is Susan B. Anthony. In 1869 she founded the National Woman’s suffrage Association along with a friend, Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Susan devoted most of her time to the Abolitionist cause and became and agent for the American Anti-Slavery …

Women Who Rock, Ellen Ochoa!

Kicking off our Hispanic Heritage Month, I wanted to talk about different Hispanic women who have contributed to many aspects in the world. From politicians, scientists, artists, to the medical field, Hispanic women have emerged into becoming world leaders and help bring progress. I want to start off my first Women Who Rock National Hispanic Heritage Month with Ellen Ochoa!

Ellen Ochoa was the first Latina to be chosen as an astronaut. She has done four space flights and has almost one thousands flight hours to her credit. Ochoa received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from San Diego State University in 1980, before earning a Master of Science degree and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1981 and 1985, respectively. She joined NASA as a research engineer at Ames Research Center in 1988. By 1990, she went on to the Johnson Space center, where she was selected as an astronaut and made her historic trip to space in 1993. In May 2017, she was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame. She is currently the director of the Johnson Space center in Houston, being the second woman and first Latina to lead its 13,000 employees.

Ellen Ochoa has helped break barriers in the scientific world. With so many track records, Ochoa has acquired the Distinguished Service Medal, NASA’s highest honor, along with several schools named after her. She will continue to break barriers and help change the future of NASA, showing that she is a woman who rocks

Nancy M. Johnson. The Inventor

For this week’s Women Who Rock, Nancy Johnson has shown us that you can be a creator regardless of your position in life and you can change things no matter what position you find yourself.

Who can resist the sweet taste of ice cream?

Summer heat waves are here and what sweeter way to enjoy the summer than with a delicious cone of ice cream. With so many flavors to choose from, makes me wonder if I could create them all at home!

Nowadays you can find several recipes online to make the perfect match for your taste buds.

I have to thank a New England housewife, Nancy Johnson who is helped bring the art of creating ice cream to the home. She is known as the inventor of the first hand-cranked ice cream churn back in 1846. She created an “artificial freezer” containing a tub, cylinder, lid, dasher, and crank, a design that is still popular today. She patented her design but without the capital to manufacture and market it, she sold the patent to a kitchen wholesaler who began producing the churn and selling it publicly.

Making ice cream at the time was time consuming and difficult to create. It would take longer periods of producing causing high costs and time.  Johnson’s solution was simple: instead of opening the bucket to stir the liquid by hand, she attached a hand crank to the outside of the bucket which twisted the pot on the inside. Her invention was a huge step forward for ice cream. It didn’t only make the process easier—it also made ice cream with a smoother texture.

Nancy Johnson is an inventor. She had the strength and ability to come up with a dream and create it.

We can learn from her accomplishments ,we ourselves can become an inventor and create something that can move us forward. We can aspire to do more and accomplish things that help us all move forward.

Steamy Makeup Tips

Humid makeup

The summer heat is kicking in and if you live in area like I do in Savannah, you know you will have to endure the humidity.  There are some steamy makeup tips that help me try not put too much makeup during the summer, but I do try to make sure my skin is still refresh and glowing with just a touch of makeup.  Here are some routines and makeup goodies that I use to implement my summer rejuvenate glow. Here are some steamy makeup tips to follow:

1.Skin Care

Skincare is crucial, you need to make sure you are taking care of your skin and prepping it up for the summer. Make sure to create your own skin care routine. If you have oily, dry or sensitive skin, make sure to find the right products that work for your skin.  If you can go to a dermatologist or possibly go to the mall or beauty store and get advice if you have any questions or concerns of what products would work best for you.  Make sure to find the right moisturizer that contains SPF.

Here are what I use to keep my skin feeling healthy and protected from the Sun.

2.Prime Time

One thing that helps keep the makeup from running for me s the primer. It not only creates a smooth base, making whatever that goes on next mush smoother, but it will also increase its longevity. It’s like a glue that adheres your foundation on your skin and shields between skincare and your makeup.

If your skin gets clogged easily, go for oil-free ones and avoid silicone-textured ones. If you have oily skin, make sure you go for mattifying primers.  Using an eye primer will help your eye shadows last a whole lot longer and prevent creasing! Applying eye primer on your under eye area and on your laughing lines will lessen the chance or visibility of creasing in those areas. It’ll make your concealer last longer too.

Here are my personal favorites that are proven to be clog-proof!:

  1. Go Simple

It’s the summer and it’s hot! Don’t make your face endure too much during this season. Try not to apply a ton of makeup on your face because the cackier your face, the more likely it is for your makeup to separate and crease here and there will appear, also accentuating your pores. Yikes!

So, how to avoid having a cakey face?

1.Sheer is the key :

If you are having bad complexion let the concealer become your best friend. Apply one thin layer of foundation or tinted moisturizer, conceal anything else you need to hide with the concealer.

A foundation and concealer combo I heavily rely on for crazy hot and humid days.   You don’t need to have layers of foundation to make your skin look radiant. Sometimes too much can cause make it worse in the humidity.

  1. Go Oil-Free:

Products that contain oil are more likely to melt off of your skin. Plus, they are more likely to clog your pores too. So opt for oil free face products, especially when it comes to foundation.

  1. Avoid Over-Powdering:

Powder is often the culprit behind cakey faces, plus powder and sweat don’t mix together. Only powder areas where you really need extra oil-control such as the T-Zone area. Translucent powders help settle makeup with excellent oil control.

4.Stay fresh and dry by waterproof

One of the things I hate dealing with is finding the right mascara. Sometimes waterproof mascaras, become clumpy ,flaky than non-waterproof mascaras. However, there is a solution that I have found. I apply waterproof topcoat on the top of my non-waterproof

If you’re looking for a great waterproof mascara, try

  1. Whip Out Your Creams

Cream-based are your besties when it comes to averting a makeup meltdown. They have better adherence to the skin than powder because they in reality stick on to the skin, whereas powder would just sit on top of your skin.

However, when cream and powder are combined, they last the longest. So try layering your creams with a bit of powder to lay it in place.

When it comes to eyeshadows, a trick I always do is to apply a cream shadow as a base before applying powder shadows.

For blushes, go easy on the cream – just apply a sheer layer of it and you can set it with a powder blush or highlighter afterwards.

My favorite cream blushes at the moment are

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Cheek color Balm

When it comes to foundation, I try to be careful with applying to much. Cream foundations are usually thinker in texture. I make sour to apply just a thin amount and not overdue it. Using dampened beauty blender as helped keep my skin glowing and refresh.

Apply a lipbalm with SPF or lip gloss to enhance your refresh look. before applying any other lip products. Sun exposure will cause chapping and flaking, and you need to protect your lips from that!

A product that I go by is Rosebud Original Salve

6.Spray & Set

While we already love spritzing setting sprays on our faces, I like to décolletage and neck to help avoid telltale makeup streaks. “It also controls chest sweat,” he adds — something that is unfortunately all too common come summer. A good product that works for me is the Photo Finish Primer Water. Helps keep my face looking refresh and ready to tackle the heat.

Now I’m ready to endure this summer heat wave, I hope you do too!

An Eye in Color

Finding the right color that is eye catching can take a lot of work. You have to take time to see what works for you and what makes you feel sexy and comfortable. You have the chance to find that by experimenting with colors and finding your unique style. Also, the seasons can also alter your sense of color style. A person would rather wear something light for the summer and darker tone in the winter. Just take time to experiment even for 15 minutes. Make it a fun night, by putting on some music, getting some wine and trying out your outfits in your closet. You will be able to figure out what tone you feel like rockin!

But most of all have fun!

Psoriasis problems? Keeping the skin clear and vibrant

Keeping my skin clean and clear is something I take serious. Battling with psoriasis, I have the discomfort of dealing with red, flaky patches on my skin, especially in my face and scalp. There are times I wish these red raised patches were just a little less obvious. Though there isn’t a cure for psoriasis, there are ways to relieve symptoms at home. Always make sure to seek medical help to understand better the symptoms and ways certain products will work best for you.
Some ways that I reduce dryness and prevent lesions from forming is a moisturizing regimen. Coal tar creams and washes can be used to reduce the rapid accumulation of skin cells and can also decrease inflammation. One of the products I use to help clear my skins is the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash. Every other day I use the Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub to help remove the dried skin. I always end my regimen with Take a Deep Breath Oil-Free Oxygenating Gel Cream. It helps keep the skin smooth and not oily.
I also found that retinol and salicylic acid can keep flaking at bay by removing dead skin cells. To help temporarily soothe redness and itching make sure to create a routine, I try not to apply that much of much makeup to avoid irritation and causing the flake to appear.
Here are some products that I have found useful with keeping the skin clear and battle the dry skin.  You can find these products at
