Yoga Challenge

Have you ever challenged yourself to start something new and commit to it? Yoga is something that I have wanted to master for quite some time. Although I have taken some classes,  still am a beginner attempting to find balance and strength in the practice. For the month of August, I decided to do a Yoga Challenge. I joined a Yoga class several weeks ago but I’ve struggled to go every week. This time, my challenge will be to do it every single day. Let’s see how long this will last. It might be easy to people who are comfortable working out everyday, but for me, I’m not much of a person who remembers to work out everyday with a busy schedule. I do use my work and school as an excuse not to exercise. At some point, you need to decide if you want to continue to slouch or start being healthy and achieve your goals. Being active can help benefit you on the long run. It’s better to start somewhere and work yourself up to different steps.

Doing this challenge will be my guide to getting back on track with a daily practice. Doing at least 30 minutes whether it’s in a class or at home can help increase strength, flexibility, and balance quickly and simply. Engagining my entire body and mind will help create a fresh outtake on working out and not strain my lower back. If don’t have much experience with yoga like myself, start with a easy practice that is sage and will have a proper alignment.  I suggest to at least take one or two classes with an instructor. They can help you position the body the correct way, once you get the technique, you can do it at home with a video or app.

Whether it’s yoga or walking or doing a squat challenge, get yourself out there and work on getting healthy and discipline your body. It’s easy to make excuses and fall of the wagon, but have the courage to continue on and even if you miss a day, it’s ok, just keep pushing forward. Go at your own pace and be able to feel great after working your body and seeing that you are taking the right steps to being healthy.

I start my yoga challenge today, I have my workout close and gear ready for it. I will be taking a class the majority of the time and doing some with an app I found recently at home. Take the step to move forward, you never know what new adventures you will open yourself up to. Take the challenge!

Tinted moisturizer – it helps add a wash of even glow without feeling too heavy on the skin

Lip Balm with SPF: with heat and sun exposure, a lot of irritation can cause painful, chapped and dry lips. Make a point to carry a lip balm around and every time you’re thinking of applying lipstick , try and put it over your lip balm to give your lips some protection.

Waterproof mascara – a face just isn’t done without mascara. I helps create fullness and gives definition

While you have kept your feet wrapped up in socks and shoes in the winters, this is the time to get them ‘out’ and give them a bright pop of colour.

Light scent – be reminded of the summer breeze and the perfect mix of sweet and sexy. Trade your full-strength perfume for a body spray. Get a light scent and is not too overpowering, also it should last long as the humidity tends to dry them out.

Frizz free hair – keep humidity from ruining a good hair day with products that add body but won’t weigh down strands such as lightweight wave sprays, root-lifting powder. Keep your frizz and dryness under control by using hair sprays and hair products that will keep those locks under control and make them look good too.

Find the right products that work with your beauty routine. Keep yourself refresh and vibrant with some essential products. Before heading out the door, glam up and keep your skin feeling smooth and clean.

What to wear for an interview

So now you have your resume and portfolio prepared, and you’ve done your research on your potential employer. Next stop: what should I wear?

Interview 2Appearance is a key factor. I’m a bit old-fashioned when it comes to making sure you wear casual formal attire for an interview. It makes you look serious about the position and prepared for the job ahead. Once you are in the interview, they will see your character and can see what a great person you are. You don’t want to wait until the last minute, scrambling to get ready for the interview. Regardless of the type of job, a first impression should be a great one. That doesn’t mean you have to wear a pantsuit; dress accordingly in business attire. Don’t go in your pajamas, obviously, but if you are applying for a position in a more casual environment, such as store or restaurant, it’s still important to be neat, tidy and well-groomed. Present yourself as a positive image to the employer. When wearing makeup and accessories, don’t go for flashy. Make it more reserved; you’re not going clubbing. This shows how seriously you are taking the opportunity and shows your level of respect for the interviewer. Startups tend to be a lax atmosphere and dress code, so if you show up for a job interview in a suit and tie or conservative dress, you may give off the impression you are too uptight for the laid-back culture. Another example is a creative agency, where the traditional interview outfit may come across as unoriginal or boring. You can usually get away with adding something extra to show your originality and personality. Of course, there are still organizations where employees are expected to wear suits every day, such as law offices or finance industry firms. This is where researching the company you are applying for comes in handy. You want to make sure that you are able to be a part of the team and help them and yourself grow.

I tend to confuse the attire for interviews at times. It’s been a while since I’ve done one, but some details that I use to help me decipher office dress codes are:

Business professional: In a business professional atmosphere, suits are common and the basis of daily wear. Women might wear a skirt or pantsuit with heels.

Business casual: Don’t worry about having to wear a  suit when interviewing at a business casual company. You might consider wearing a conservative dress, a blouse (or sweater) with a skirt, or dress pants and dress shoes or boots.

Casual: When interviewing at a casual office, it’s still important to look polished and professional. That doesn’t mean you should go all the way with jeans and flip flop before getting hired. You might want to wear a collared shirt with pants or a pencil skirt or work dress.

Interview 3
Interview appearance

The interviewer is going to notice everything about you, including your interview attire, hairstyle, and makeup. With your skills, experience, and capability, you will ultimately win the job, but how you present yourself can impact the hiring manager’s impression of you. Your appearance is the reflection of your level of professionalism.

Interview pointers

Interviews makes people anxious, no matter how many times they have faced it earlier. There is not doubt that you need to be attentive for an interview. Here are some tips that will point you to the right direction. Do your homework, there is no reason, you should be nervous or jittery about it. You are the right candidate and your work will show them how great of a person you will be for the position. Talk about what you have done to prepare yourself to be the best candidate for the position. Use examples to back it up during the interview. Then ask if they like more details. Give them a background of your work and experience.  You must show them they are doing a great investment in bringing you into the team.  Any job interviews you have form an entry level to the board of directors can be nervous, anxious affairs and one of the key factors in determining if your interview will ultimately be successful is how prepared you are.  Your interview is a two-way street. The interviewer wants to find out about you, but it also is your chance to find out about the company and what your role will be. Be interested and enthusiastic but not pushy and rude. Stay relaxed and listen carefully. Above all BE YOURSELF!!

Interview Tricks

Interviewing for a new job can be a bit intimidating. After all, it’s not something that you do every day. Most people who interview for a job are either recent grads that are looking to get their first real work experience, or they’re already experienced workers who have been with the same company for a long time and are ready to move on to something new. Here are some helpful tips to help you make a better impression and get you into the door to your new career.

Preparing for the interview

Prepare your portfolio and resume ahead of time and practice using it so that you know where everything is located

Do your research on the company and the position that you’re interviewing for

Practice your answers but don’t make the sound rehearsed just focus on hitting the main points

Dress professionally and make sure you are well groomed

Bring any materials you may need including a business card, resume, and portfolio

Bring a notebook and a pen or pencil so that you can take notes or jot down questions

Be on time and allow for extra travel time in case you get lost or run into traffic

37.jpgDuring the interview

Make a good first impression with a nice, firm handshake

Be friendly, polite, and remember to smile

Display confidence through body language, don’t slouch in your chair or look down when you’re speaking

Speak loudly and enunciate when giving your answers

Always try to frame your answers in a way so that they relate to the job and why you’re the best candidate for it

Be honest- it’s better to turn down a job you’re not a good match for than to try to fake it until you make it

Prepare yourself for curveball questions you didn’t train for- take time to answer them

Ask for some time to think if you need a second to formulate your thoughts

If you are unsure of what the interviewer is asking you, politely request a more detailed explanation.

After the interview

Thank the interviewer for their time

Give the interviewer samples of your work if you have copies for them to keep (also called takeaways)

Beauty tricks for steamy season

Steamy Makeup Tips

Humid makeup

The summer heat is kicking in and if you live in area like I do in Savannah, you know you will have to endure the humidity.  There are some steamy makeup tips that help me try not put too much makeup during the summer, but I do try to make sure my skin is still refresh and glowing with just a touch of makeup.  Here are some routines and makeup goodies that I use to implement my summer rejuvenate glow. Here are some steamy makeup tips to follow:

1.Skin Care

Skincare is crucial, you need to make sure you are taking care of your skin and prepping it up for the summer. Make sure to create your own skin care routine. If you have oily, dry or sensitive skin, make sure to find the right products that work for your skin.  If you can go to a dermatologist or possibly go to the mall or beauty store and get advice if you have any questions or concerns of what products would work best for you.  Make sure to find the right moisturizer that contains SPF.

Here are what I use to keep my skin feeling healthy and protected from the Sun.

Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer SPF 15

2.Prime Time

One thing that helps keep the makeup from running for me s the primer. It not only creates a smooth base, making whatever that goes on next mush smoother, but it will also increase its longevity. It’s like a glue that adheres your foundation on your skin and shields between skincare and your makeup.

If your skin gets clogged easily, go for oil-free ones and avoid silicone-textured ones. If you have oily skin, make sure you go for mattifying primers.  Using an eye primer will help your eye shadows last a whole lot longer and prevent creasing! Applying eye primer on your under eye area and on your laughing lines will lessen the chance or visibility of creasing in those areas. It’ll make your concealer last longer too.

Here are my personal favorites that are proven to be clog-proof!:

  1. Go Simple

It’s the summer and it’s hot! Don’t make your face endure too much during this season. Try not to apply a ton of makeup on your face because the cackier your face, the more likely it is for your makeup to separate and crease here and there will appear, also accentuating your pores. Yikes!

So, how to avoid having a cakey face?

1.Sheer is the key :

If you are having bad complexion let the concealer become your best friend. Apply one thin layer of foundation or tinted moisturizer, conceal anything else you need to hide with the concealer.

A foundation and concealer combo I heavily rely on for crazy hot and humid days.   You don’t need to have layers of foundation to make your skin look radiant. Sometimes too much can cause make it worse in the humidity.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer

  1. Go Oil-Free:

Products that contain oil are more likely to melt off of your skin. Plus, they are more likely to clog your pores too. So opt for oil free face products, especially when it comes to foundation.

  1. Avoid Over-Powdering:

Powder is often the culprit behind cakey faces, plus powder and sweat don’t mix together. Only powder areas where you really need extra oil-control such as the T-Zone area. Translucent powders help settle makeup with excellent oil control.

NYX Studion Finishing Powder, Translucent Finish

4.Stay fresh and dry by waterproof

One of the things I hate dealing with is finding the right mascara. Sometimes waterproof mascaras, become clumpy ,flaky than non-waterproof mascaras. However, there is a solution that I have found. I apply waterproof topcoat on the top of my non-waterproof

If you’re looking for a great waterproof mascara, try

Estee Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer

  1. Whip Out Your Creams

Cream-based are your besties when it comes to averting a makeup meltdown. They have better adherence to the skin than powder because they in reality stick on to the skin, whereas powder would just sit on top of your skin.

However, when cream and powder are combined, they last the longest. So try layering your creams with a bit of powder to lay it in place.

When it comes to eyeshadows, a trick I always do is to apply a cream shadow as a base before applying powder shadows.

For blushes, go easy on the cream – just apply a sheer layer of it and you can set it with a powder blush or highlighter afterwards.

My favorite cream blushes at the moment are

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Cheek color Balm

When it comes to foundation, I try to be careful with applying to much. Cream foundations are usually thinker in texture. I make sour to apply just a thin amount and not overdue it. Using dampened beauty blender as helped keep my skin glowing and refresh.

Apply a lipbalm with SPF or lip gloss to enhance your refresh look. before applying any other lip products. Sun exposure will cause chapping and flaking, and you need to protect your lips from that!

A product that I go by is Rosebud Original Salve

6.Spray & Set

While we already love spritzing setting sprays on our faces, I like to décolletage and neck to help avoid telltale makeup streaks. “It also controls chest sweat,” he adds — something that is unfortunately all too common come summer. A good product that works for me is the Photo Finish Primer Water. Helps keep my face looking refresh and ready to tackle the heat.

Now I’m ready to endure this summer heat wave, I hope you do too!

An Eye in Color

experimental pic 3

Finding the right color that is eye catching can take a lot of work. You have to take time to see what works for you and what makes you feel sexy and comfortable. You have the chance to find that by experimenting with colors and finding your unique style. Also, the seasons can also alter your sense of color style. A person would rather wear something light for the summer and darker tone in the winter. Just take time to experiment even for 15 minutes. Make it a fun night, by putting on some music, getting some wine and trying out your outfits in your closet. You will be able to figure out what tone you feel like rockin!

But most of all have fun!
